So I posted what was a “taste” of the film a couple of days ago. Now we have the official trailer, and I have to admit, the film looks luscious.
My only quibble: Daniel Day-Lewis certainly looks the part. But I always imagined the Great Emancipator having a deeper, more resonant voice. Perhaps because he was so tall. And perhaps because when he spoke, people listened. And remembered what he said.
I only hope it’s not four hours of people looking “momentous” and sounding portentous, with men in Napoleonic lines collapsing in slow motion.

Like so many people, you’re mistaken about Lincoln’s voice. According to earwitnesses, he had a high, squeaky voice with a Kentucky twang. It was very common for noted public speakers in the ages before amplification systems to have high voices, as they carry better.

I don’t care about real life, which is vastly overrated. I don’t want a squeaky Lincoln!
